UK-band Toronto Blessings will release a new single on February 12th! And it’ll be the track Life! A band that never disappointed me from the very get-go (Sorrow Can Swim) up until their latest Asleep EP. What you can expect is a lot of raw and noisy energy while, rather abrasively, the unpleasant reality that’s life gets tossed into the listeners’ ears. Think a healthy mix of hardcore punk, NoMeansNo and Idles. And this should be at least as massive in terms of popularity as the latter! If only because it’s dynamically like a bulldozer and a half. It’s also worth noting that they sacrificed the good relationship with their neighbours recording this at home individually before it was sent out to mix and master.
It’s not standard punk preaching to do naughty things to the system either, or as they put it in their own words: “Life is lyrically inspired by seeking improvement always leading to a feeling of failure. And basically saying no to the script and doing it your own way. Even if that way is deeply flawed. We’re all kind of trapped in our bubbles and our loops, but it’s not always healthy to measure yourself by someone else’s metrics. You can only be you no matter how flawed and that’s enough.”
Spot on.
