I’m very excited today because we have not one, but two amazing singles brought to us by two, very different in essence Blair Jollands & Kafka yet equally talented, musical masters, both being supported by their great label M.A.R.S. Label Group. Two songs, two different musicianship, and vibes with many things to cover, so let’s get right into it.

First, we have Amsterdam-based duo KAFKA, formed by Dafne Holtland and Frank van Kasteren who has been described as a marriage of musical contradictions. Dafne brings the sky-blue voice and the classical music teachings while Frank brings the alternative school and composer’s perfectionism.
Kafka’s brand new single “Bootycall” is all about longing. Longing to each other, seeking warmth and a quick thrill against better judgment. But most of all, about the longing this longing will go away. Immediately hitting with low analog synth arpeggios, Dafne’s sensual voice rises above the electronic ambience with smooth-fierce deliverance, mixing elements of innocence and sexiness, while a slightly dissonant, futuristic, aggressive, and semi-raw music bed holds everything together.

Every day, Frank picks Dafne up, and takes her home taking turns to play each other their favorite music. She plays Chopin and female vocal groups like The Staves and Kate & Anna McGarrigle, he plays rock legends like Queen, Radiohead and Guns n’ Roses. “Jumps between disparate genres, which do a good job firing up the inspiration engine.”
Without a doubt a very interesting release by this young duo, one that merits all attention to what’s to come, and it won’t be long for us to find out as “Bootycall” is taken from the album ‘Out Of Tune’ which will be available in the spring of 2021… Can’t wait!

Then we have Mr. Blair Jollands, a compelling songwriter from New Zealand, one that has gained the admiration of musical legends like David Bowie and Boy George, no less. Having worked with pop icons like Madonna and Rihanna, Blair’s received praise is no overstatement. His music is often described as a paradoxical mix of melancholia and optimism, often compared to Lana Del Ray & Roy Orbison, Scott Walker & Rufus Wainwright.
“Dream of You”, his latest single, is a beautiful, highly energetic ballad showing Blair’s Bowie-inspired side in his vocal performance. The song was originally inspired by the passing of singer, composer and musician Lee Hazelwood but it’s “also a dedication to the courageous artists past and present who have inspired us to live today like there’s no tomorrow.“
Blair has previously collaborated with Boy George and The Strokes producer Gordon Raphael and released albums under his alter ego El Hula. He embraces modernity with classic songwriting in equal measure resulting in a uniquely refreshing confection.
M.A.R.S. Label Group USA will release Blair’s album HOLOGRAMS in the spring 2021. Two songs, two artists, two awesome pieces of art.
