Facing change comes always as a challenging experience, new friends and new relationships come while other ones might leave. Adam Brookes, the prolific frontman from indie rock band Dangermaker, found himself in an isolated spot, facing changes that were expected yet un-welcomed. The singer/producer took this as an opportunity to revisit his work and songs, and decided that it was time to let them be heard. “Lonely Life”, featuring Bay Area MC Compa Cut, is his new solo project single.
Quite a leap away from the sound of Dangermaker, Adam Brooke’s solo project brings a more electronic and immersive feel, keeping a minimal approach to the use of synthesizers and cycling pads. His voice speaks his truth, the reality of his feelings and the depth of introspection he achieved.
The pursuit and exploration of his electronic side was a mind-opening process out of his comfort zone, as he wasn’t familiar with many of its subtleties. Still he managed quite intuitively and delivered this amazing result, one of a huge learning experience.
The song evolves with an enveloping atmosphere, long reverb tails and low rhythmic bass with a hip hop vibe, Adam’s vocals feel like a story sent from the inner parts of your unconscious, while music drives you through a rainy city at midnight. MC Compa Cut’s performance closes the lid and seals everything up with a mature and honest delivery.

Adam is influenced by bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, Radiohead, and the XX, and for first time listeners you might expect something from the likes of Glass Animals, Wild Nothing, The War on Drugs and The Raveonettes. His music features a rotating cast of supporting live musicians, and collaborations with SF Bay Area MCs Enon Gaines of Unlikely Heroes, Najee Amaranth & Compa Cut.
He has been making music since 1999, starting with some cheap instruments and a four-track Tascam cassette recorder in the closet of his creaky old apartment. Now he has had appearances at Bottlerock Napa, Live 105’s BFD, and Noise Pop Music Festivals among others like SXSW & CMJ nationally, and his music heard on radio, television & film.

Adam is ready to let the world hear this new facet of his always evolving music and decided to give a no holds barred approach to his ideas, where everything might fit. “Rather than force-fitting those ideas into an existing box, this new project is left free to land where it may, fusing electronic and hip-hop influences just as much as rock, pop, R&B or anything else.”
