Week 18 2021 Hi y’all here I’m with another round of 9 Albums/EPs you should listen to released all of them recently (if you want you can take a look to our previous week here).
.- Familiar Action Self-title Debut Album “is an art-rock, character driven, exploration into modernity. The strength of the record is in its internal contrast, not least demonstrated by the opposing vocal stylings of the Armstrong brothers”. You can read our review for their single Such A Waste here. Alternative London
.- Javier Márquez The Shelter Point “The album is a selection of tracks in which ethnic wind instruments such as the Armenian Duduk, Indian bansuri or whistles have the prominence in melodies and as a support are built with harmonic piano or string orchestra mixed with electronica. It is restful, quiet songs, to get carried away in the atmosphere that it creates to reach a state of mind that I call the “The shelter point“. Which is that state of peace that makes us feel comfortable at the place we like best to be”. Classical Spain
.- Electrik Ants. Stories Untold “Electrik Ants are a modern hip-hop fusion band that’s a never-before-heard mix of eclectic genres. Think RHCP, Outkast, and Jamiroquai took off in a rocket ship with Gorillaz.”
.- Mark Peters Memorial. Debut Album In his own words “As a songwriter, It’s the work I’m most proud of to date. Many of the songs were ideas I had 15 or so years ago but couldn’t realise them until I met the right people to play with. The songs deal with some heavy topics but in the end I wanted to transfer a message of positivity and overcoming. I hope this comes across in the lyrics and that you enjoy listening to Memorial as much as we enjoyed creating it”. Acoustic, Folk Pop Austria Viena.
.- Methadone Skies Retrofuture Caveman Progressive Psychedelic Stoner Instrumental band from Timișoara, Romania. If you are into this genres… you don’t want to miss this one.
.- DB Armitage Lovelow Dalma Berger is a multidisciplinary vocalist and video artist recording cinematic, shapeshifting music as DB Armitage in East London. Berger deftly combines her dazzling voice and eastern European heritage with elements of 1980’s dark wave. Having always felt like an outsider, DB Armitage now creates work that is both luminous and transfigured, bringing the listener into her own unique world without compromise.Avant-garde London.
.- Saint Samuel Self-titled Debut Ep “Saint Samuel has been writing and recording this EP since September of 2020. In the middle of a pandemic, unable to get into a studio or work with his producer, he began the process of writing his debut record in his bedroom. The name “Saint Samuel” hadn’t even been thought of when he started writing it. He began to quickly find that his writing style, genre, and topics in his songs were heavily differentiating from what he had done in the past under his previous name, Sam McCoig”. You can read our review for his single On A Wire here.
.- Good Health Good Wealth “RICH is the debut EP from London based alt duo Good Health Good Wealth. The four track project explores life in contemporary England and aims to spread a message of unity in an increasingly divided era. Singles Love Hangover and Guinness feature on the EP as well as upcoming single Alright which depicts a portrait or modern British masculinity”.
- Cooney Thatcher There’s Your House Debut EP Alternative / Folk Rock / Indie Pop
This week a bonus
- YVA Hype Machine Debut Album In her own words “I am a completely independent artist and recorded the entire EP in my home studio with the help of my partner Jonathan Hibbert and musicians such as Martyn Kaine on drums recorded remotely during lockdown. Recording independently has given me so much creative freedom to express my ideas as I see fit, being able to learn and produce my first record in my own time to create something I am immensely proud of”.
