Its been more than a year since lockdown started. While we have been stuck in home, we have taken the opportunity to discover new music and artist and to share them with the world. Artists throughout the world have continued realeasing new tracks and redescovering old ones and reworking them to transform them into something completly new. This is the case of today’s featured track, “Harder Now (For Love)” by English rock band SENSES.
SENSES is made up of Brian Callan (guitars, vocals), Ian Finnegan (drums, piano), Kevin Kavanagh (guitars) and Ronan O’Connor (bass). The band met while attending school in Conventry, UK after discovering shared interest in underground music during the early 2000s. Their early demos gained them attention of major labels and radio attention from the BBC, whose support helped them to start gigging in various locations of the UK and to start working on their debut album. Unfortunately, a delay brought their momentum to a halt. SENSES entered a hiatus. The band thought the recordings for their unreleased album were lost. They began searching them for the last ten years with little to no success, until now…

Lockdown led SENSES, alongside producer Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Blinders, Slow Reader’s Club and Kid Kapachi), to search for their unreleased album. Eventually, the recordings were re-discovered, re-worked, and mastered by LOUD Mastering (The Clash, Radiohead, Dry Cleaning). Previous singles of this proyect, “Drop Your Arms” and “Drifting”, have been featured in BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, RTE 2FM, and XS Manchester. “Harder Now (For Love)” is the third single in this proyect.
Harder Now (For Love) is an anthem composed in the style DIY of garage and indie rock with a little bit of shoegaze thrown to the mix. It is inspired by elements of BRMC, Teenage Fanclub, and Kasabian. Heavy bass, hard drums, ardent synths, intense vocals, and loud guitars construct piece by piece a harmony that progressively reaches a climax in the chorus. The track builds little by little the burden of a global pandemic and social injustice but, instead of caving into the frustration, challenges it with a hopeful message: “Harder now for the love”. One cannot help but to headbang while singing along.
With “Harder Now (For Love)” SENSES has proved that re-working old material worth it. The third single in their new proyect cements it as one that is certainly promising and worth following.
