COLLEGE ELITE – THE WAY IT USED TO BE

NEW SINGLE RELEASED – 30th June 2021

A MIGHTY IMPRESSIVE RACKET! – AND A WAKE-UP CALL TO ENJOY!

THE WAY IT USED TO BE IS THE EPONYMOUS SINGLE FROM THE NEW EP FROM GARAGE ROCK ARTIST COLLEGE ELITE.

Rollicking and relentless – College Elite have totally nailed it with their latest single release. It is an incredible musical composition, especially when you consider that it was produced with just one guitar and a live drum kit and that it was recorded in Joshua William’s attic!

I remember the first time I saw The White Stripes live – and I was blown away by the noise those two made! – it had a really full band feel sometimes – the ‘noise’ they made really was quite incredible – and the gig totally surpassed all of my expectations and made me appreciate them more than ever before.

One of the first things I thought of when I heard ‘The Way It Used To Be’ was that White Stripes gig. I started listening to this new single, armed with the knowledge that it was just a two-piece – and I was mighty impressed with the full and frenetic sound that had been created. I immediately envisaged myself down the front at a College Elite concert, losing myself to this song and having a great time.

It’s a real rip-roarer of a song right from the start, with some Pumpkin shades and maybe even a little bit of Green Day in there. This song really is one hell of a nostalgia trip – college rock for the connoisseur, in the year 2021!

TENSE, RAW AND EARNEST…. AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL LYRICS…. AND COLLEGE ELITE’S MOST ANTHEMIC CHORUS YET.

The additional appeal of this great song is found in the autobiographical and thought-provoking lyrics of Joshua William. What does the future hold for us? Was there a period of time in our past that was actually better than the present-day life we are currently leading? Maybe the grass wasn’t greener… maybe it just wasn’t meant to be? What does the future hold in store for us? Are we actually finding enjoyment and fulfilment in our lives? Are we alive or are we living?

Some of my favorite lines in this song are: – “you never call me when you’re alone”…. “cigarette breaks are your only fresh air”…. “I can’t take all this silence – it’ll be the death of me”…. “just because it’s easy – does that make me happy?”…. “is this the life you really want?”

College Elite’s latest single really is a complete package – it’s instantaneously enjoyable and catchy – but far more importantly – it continues to reward with subsequent listens because of it’s musical and lyrical depth and pertinence.

COLLEGE ELITE IS A MUSIC PROJECT FROM JOSHUA WILLIAM LO-FI GARAGE ROCK FROM MANCHESTER, UK, STRIPPING SONGS DOWN TO BE AS RAW AND AUTHENTIC AS POSSIBLE, COMPRISING OF JUST ONE GUITAR, DRUMS AND VOCALS

QUOTE FROM JOSHUA WILLIAM:

“I WORKED AN OFFICE JOB AND WAS CONSTANTLY THINKING IF I PREFERRED MY LIFE WORKING AS A LATE NIGHT BARTENDER IN MANCHESTER, AND IF I SHOULD GO BACK TO THAT LIFE. ONE DAY I REALISED I WAS SAT IN COMPLETE SILENCE IN AN OFFICE WITH PEOPLE I HARDLY KNEW AND WANTED TO QUIT ON THE SPOT. THE WAY IT USED TO BE IS REMEMBERING PARTS OF MY LIFE BEFORE AND WANTING TO GO BACK TO IT. THE IDEA WITH COLLEGE ELITE IS THAT IT’S THE MOST AUTHENTIC VERSION OF MUSIC THAT I LOVE, LO-FI INDIE ROCK AND THIS SONG IS THE MOST GENUINE REFLECTION OF ME. I THINK IT’S THE CATCHIEST SONG RELEASED FOR COLLEGE ELITE SO FAR AND ONE I’M SURE WILL BE A BIG ONE ONCE GIGS HAPPEN AGAIN. MAYBE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SONG I EVER WROTE, BECAUSE I DID QUIT MY JOB AND GO BACK TO THAT LIFE”

INSPIRED BY ARTISTS FROM NIRVANA AND SMASHING PUMPKINS, TO HOCKEY DAD AND JOYCE
MANOR, COLLEGE ELITE AIMS FOR LO-FI COLLEGE ROCK, STRIPPING THE SONG DOWN NEARLY AS BARE AS IT CAN BE WITH ONLY DRUMS, GUITAR AND VOCALS, ALLOWING THE SONG TO BE AUTHENTIC AND AS RAW AS POSSIBLE.
