Hi fellas! I hope it’s somebody’s birthday today! Nah, but really, I can say that I am completely thrilled and moved by today’s single and its songwriter! “Happy 22!” is an honest, unpretentious song that captivates with its innocence.
So, here’s the story, singer-songwriter Presley Duyck was hit by a ton of emotions when she realized that it was her ex-boyfriend’s birthday that day. She found herself a bit confused, as she didn’t know what to do. Should she text him? Should she make a post online? Would it be ok? or would it be unwelcome? Unable to make a decision, she decided to write a song! And, man, what a song!
“I wrote this song during quarantine. I was surprised by the many emotions that hit me when I woke up and realized that it was my ex-boyfriend’s birthday. Because we had a bad break-up, we hadn’t talked in months. It felt weird to do a social media post (felt so shallow and insincere), but it also felt weird to send him a private message (felt secretive and perhaps unwelcome.) In the end, I didn’t contact him but wrote this song instead.” – Presley

Honestly, the song is so much fun. Simple, yet brilliantly produced and arranged. There’s not a lot of elements instrument-wise, but each guitar, drums, bass and synths are perfectly spot on. No more, no less. Lyrics are heart-felt, opened up with sincere emotions, and perfectly fitted.
“I love the guitars (Nick Lashley of Alanis Morissette) and the subtle things we included to keep the track interesting right up until the very end. The outro is one of my favorite parts!” – Presley
Yes! The outro is most interesting! Just when you think the song is about to end, it is reborn as a short but appreciative ending. Thumbs up!
“Presley is an excellent songwriter with a perspective that is way beyond her years. Her melodies are spellbinding and she is able to navigate them effortlessly with a voice that is timeless. She is able to convey emotional complexity with wit and humor and she is able to dive deep into the human experience.” – Chris Garcia, Producer
Presley loves folk music and classic rock, specially that from Joni Mitchell and Fleetwood Mac. She has previously released “Passenger Seat”, a song that evokes 80s pop with powered vocals compared to those of Stevie Nicks. Presley also finds inspiration in artists and bands like Queen, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande.
“My music has become this marriage of vintage acoustic and synthesizers, I want my music to sound just as timeless as it does modern.” – Presley Duyck
