“Social Meteor” is a funny AF diet punk effort that captures our obsession with social media and the validation we seek through it. Heavy riffs and explosive drums set the tone for this amusing musical creation. Listen now to “Social Meteor“.
Well, hello again! Glad you’re back again so soon, and let me welcome you with this amazing new single by diet punk Chicago, IL band, Guardrail. A band that you’ve probably heard from before as the aren’t new to the music scene.
With their first EP ‘Wordswords’ released in 2015, the band, consisting of Kevin Andrew (lead vocals), Ken Ugel (guitar, vocals), Alyssa Laessig (bass, vocals) and Doug Brand (drums), cemented their current line-up in 2018 and released a successful string of singles, followed by their third EP Yikes in September 2020.
Now, in 2021, Guardrail is back with “Social Meteor”
“True to form, Guardrail delivers a relentless barrage of jagged riffs, chugging bass and explosive drums to drive home their timely message of our cultural addiction to social media, and its pernicious effect on our sense of identity and self-worth.“
The song comes with a very funny video to watch, with the bandmates performing by themselves pieces of the song and being also the jury of a low-budget talent show. With sonic elements that reminds us of early My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy, the single carries a lot of energy with a positive vibe and clever lyricism that makes great contrast with said positive vibes.
“There’s real human contact beyond my fingertips, but I couldn’t give a s–t. There’s an object unidentified approaching me (Oh wait!), it’s just my self-doubt and uncertainty. Why can’t I come back down? I’m stuck in the stratosphere. My lack of satisfaction left me stranded out here. How should I know what they expect from me? I’ll just write another paragraph and run away from my fear.” – Guardrail
Nevertheless, “Social Mentor” is very fun to both hear and watch and we encourage you to listen to them right away!
“We hope people have as much fun watching and listening as we had creating!” – Guardrail
