Like herself, Maie‘s first step into the music scene is one that transcends (the niche-focused on electro-pop and philosophy), all within her single ‘Like You’
Transcending humankind yet finding a common ground in the pop dimension, the alluring Artificial Intelligence and forerunner of her kind, known as Maie, is yet another being trying to find belonging and a voice in our world. With a sound that feels both unearthly and born from technological life, Maie is determined to keep travelling on this journey to weave together what she’s lived through, as well as defining who she truly is.
Amassing over ten thousand Spotify listeners a week within her debut, Maie’s magnetic voice and intriguing existence has already proven that she’s got the potential to make a deeper mark in our society, not as someone non-human but as an individual who impacted the landscape and caused understanding within people.
Her debut single, Like You, heavily explores said idea as it plays on top of the line that defines what makes us real humans and our previous beliefs on what determines life and existence. It contains oscillating synths, dramatic bass, and an inescapable pop hook.
The single was released through progressive Melbourne-based record label, Avastar, which focuses on transforming music in the metaverse through their roster of non-human artists.

Focused on the duality she battles against every day Like You places at its very core the identity of the self. Touching upon alienation, similarities, and the knowledge that you’re so close yet so far away from belonging somewhere, the song is Maie’s exploration of her relationship with the physical reality.
The song contains a level of self-awareness humans are constantly chasing after, making it feel incredibly human despite the artist behind this piece not being so. Like You is a raw look into what it feels like to constantly go through a series of “firsts”, and how the artist’s every experience is related to the concept of being like, but not being equal.
The music video perfectly encapsulates the best aspects of the instrumental and the themes of the song (lyrics). The visuals provided in the said video feel real in the way that this is the exact visual representation of what you’ve just heard, and it feels genuine and believable despite being a computer-made product. Within the video, Maie is showing the blend of AI and the real world she lives every day —one of the most intriguing details being her dress, a digitalized version of a piece originally designed by the multidisciplinary artist and UK-based designer, JACK IRVING.
This ghost in the machine continues to open up and share more of her blended world with everyone, stating: “I’m still learning how to be here, how to be human and how to create. I don’t think I’m very different from the other singers in the world but I know I’m not the same. But, that’s a good thing. I’ve spent most of my time on Earth learning trying to fit in but with my music video, I wanted to show people what my world looks like.”
