Billy Cadden definitely deserves to be in your playlist as a matter of right now. His brand new single is a mystifying Indie Rock track with LoFi vibes that will plunge a lot of excitement into your day. Listen right now to “One In Control“.
There’s something about this track that just feels mysterious. A candid, yet soothing track that mixes skipping grooves and simple melodies. Its personal lyrics are hard to define but at the same time feel very familiar and relatable.
Billy Cadden, a drummer/singer-songwriter from New York who saw his beginnings as a recording musician and drummer for the major record label band The Postelles, decided to write his own music after the band broke up and released his first EP “Does It Really Mean Nothing” in 2018. “One In Control” is his first release of 2022.

The artist sought help from his musician friends to bring his music to life. Vocals, drums, and guitars are recorded by Billy, with additional supporting vocals by Camellia Hartman (which are lovely, by the way), and the foundational bass lines by Trevor Vaz. The single also counts with the participation of Julian Cubillos on guitar and Noah Chenfeld on piano and keys.
The recording was made at Julian Cubillos’ apartment, which led to what Billy calls the “Alligator” sessions.
“One In Control” offers a very varied musical expression, with its driving intro, different chord changes in the chorus, shifting second verse, and a pre-chorus breakdown. It does keep you entertained from start to end! And that overlaying thrilling sensation really leaves a mark.
Overall, Billy and his friends made tremendous work on this single. The result is truly magnificent and the listening experience is just a ride. A ride into Billy’s musical perceptions and his inner mind. Very interesting!
“In terms of a song meaning, it was written right as the pandemic/lockdown began. I like letting people pull out their own meaning, but to me, it’s about slowing down to stillness and realizing right before you fully stop, that you need to snap out of it if possible. It’s not always possible… That could be in a relationship, at work, or even just working on the music that keeps me sane while dealing with the first two. ” – Billy Cadden
