Christopher the Grey new single “Don’t Move My Mountains”

Hip Hop artist Christopher the Grey (CTG) has a new single on its way to streaming services titled “Don’t Move My Mountains” slated for release May 12th. As the title might imply, it is indeed a spin on the traditional gospel song “Lord, Don’t Move My Mountain” (most common versions by Mahalia Jackson and Inez Andrews). Or as is the case with CTG, the spiritual was most notably sung by his mother.

That personal connection to it is what he cites as the primary influence for penning his modernized variation of it. At the end of the day, the underlying message remains the same. It’s a song about overcoming hardship and finding strength. A message that CTG slapped a fire of a beat on, resulting in a track that emits epic and cinematic vibes.

Lyrically and conceptually, he states that the idea has swirled around in his head for some time, and as a matter of happenstance, a recent studio session brought about the inspiration for those ideas to finally come to life. And you should know by now that I’m always on standby, ready to hit that “Bandcamper” alert button when called upon to do so. No exception here! No need to wait until May 12th to give it a listen! You can pre-order, listen, and support this artist now on Bandcamp:

In poetic kind of irony, CTG has figuratively been moving mountains with regard to his music, reaching some pretty remarkable milestones over the last couple of years. He released a song with Snoop Dogg on it in 2021 titled “So Hot,” his song “Oh My Damn” hit a million streams on Spotify, he has 2 million views on Tik Tok using sounds from his song “Higher,” and he yields nearly 15k monthly listeners on Spotify as well. Considering that CTG does all the writing, producing, arranging, and performing for his tracks (at least such is the case with “Don’t Move My Mountains”); it’s safe to say he is killing it as a DIY artist.

Christopher the Grey is an artist based in Birmingham, Alabama. He describes his sound as “Neo-Hip Hop,” and attributes that to the elements of old school he brings to a modern sound. Indeed, when you hear his music there is old school energy to it and that’s what makes it unique in a sense because in terms of production, the sound is huge and modern. It slaps! His direct influences include (to name a few) Prince, Jay-Z, and Kanye. His music is a good recommendation for fans of any of those aforementioned artists.
