Polish band When in Maine released a debut album recently. Or did they? Founded by two members of the now disbanded group Snakedoctors, they would tell you that what is now considered the final Snakedoctors album, was really just a precursor for things to come on what is technically When.In.Maine’s debut album.
Things to come perhaps, but in contrast I would offer that the self-titled album (released April 16th) does indeed take a notable step further into a hard-rocking grunge direction. The band’s front man and composer, Wojchiech Wypych, attributes this heavier approach to a period of time spent in the United States playing in bands primarily influenced by Hard Rock and Numetal. A full-length album with 15 tracks and over an hour of music, it in totality spans a spectrum of Rock music with ballad type of songs like “Breadcrumbs” and “When in Maine,” as well as heavier, grungier tunes like “Sores” and “Ditched.”
The album features 12 original songs produced by David Gorgolewski, and three bonus remixes / alternate recordings for “Prove Me Wrong,” “Ditched,” and “Stole My Memories.” Produced by Chris Rakestraw, Marshal Gallagher, and Dave Dominguez, respectively. The band also sought out the opportunity to collaborate across the globe on the new album with Danish singer Annerup on “C Song,” and with U.S. singer Amélie Swan on “Option.”
When.In.Maine also recently released a new music video in support of the new release for the album’s title track, which is a stark and disturbing video produced by Ada Nikelewska (on IG @adanikeart). The video is actually the third installment of a series of music videos produced by Nikelewsa for the band. “When in Maine” is a chapter of the visuals that explains much of the imagery and things that happened in previously released music videos “Ditched” and “Option.” So no spoilers! Go check out the band’s YouTube Channel for more info.
