Deep Dive Species, the NY-based virtual band has just revealed their new full-length release “Habitat”. Following the debut release “Aquaphilia”, the new record is a considerably calmer, more mature and more introspective collection of music meant to be experienced as one continuous journey. Submerge into the deep undiscovered realms and let yourself be surprised!

The new album comes after a hiatus with one member taking a vacation in Costa Rica, and the other looking deeper into meditative side of music. “Aquaphilia” had lots of music that didn’t make it to the final tracklist, but were still too good to be binned or put away in a folder. During the break, musical ideas still kept coming – Vadim Militsin found new inspirations by sampling Costa Rica’s local wildlife and Sergiy Popovich was never too far from his guitar.

Whereas the debut album was bubbling and full of attention-grabbers, “Habitat” is quite the opposite and resembles more of a deeply reflective journey to new (self) discoveries. Grown from the unreleased material of the first album, “Habitat” transcends the “unreleased songs” state and introduces a different, full-bodied experience, similar to solitary travels into wilderness. The all-encompassing calmness has a myriad of other emotions hidden within to reveal when it’s time.

Among the emotions are lots of inspirations ranging from artists like Tame Impala to the bustling sample-sharing on the internet, as well as infuential film composers like Angelo Badalamenti, and the intricate worlds of David Lynch. It’s no surprise that the album sounds as vibrant as it does – the perfectionist’s search for greatness combined with fresh ideas have resulted in a beautiful journey where every turn reveals something new while keeping familiar hints and roadmarks.

The journey consists of 16 smoothly flowing tunes with expertly blended guitar melodies and atmospheres that depict rich and nourishing landscapes. Among them are “Triple Peaks”, a song drenched in wet reverb and melancholy, gentle yet forward-pushing “Unconditional” and the nocturnal homing track “Back to Elsinore”. The whole experience has a total runtime of 44 minutes, just a perfect amount of time to find from your busy life to sit back and relax.
