Gentry Blue, the Nashville-based psychedelic rock band, have just released a new single “Lose No Sleep”. Don’t be fooled by the title as this is not a song about difficulties sleeping – instead, this energy-infused tune has considerably darker themes at play. In this particular case, it’s a tale of a woman facing a prison sentence for what she had committed.
Part of a recent string of singles about women, who have pulled off atrocities of various kinds, Gentry Blue’s new single tackles the unhinged state of a criminal mind facing punishment for what she had done. She ain’t gonna fight the justice though – after all it was the fault of the person she went after for driving her to that point.
And spending a life doing nothing doesn’t sound too bad either. Thus, the criminal sings with a voice of confident nonchalance: “Put me away!”
That confident vocal of a person with no remorse comes along with solid indie rock sound converting the bother of justice into a self-serving criminal rock. Soaring guitars follow the curious feeling of relief that comes from being separated and thus, no longer driven mad. That’s likely not what the law intends – they expect remorse and regret – but “Lose No Sleep” is the song of the soundest prisoner in the building, ever.
While the woman is sentenced to life in peace, Gentry Blue are gearing to release their debut full-length album. “Lose No Sleep” offers a taste of the new record, as it will be part of the LP currently in the works.
