British singer and songwriter Tom Minor returns with “The Bad Life”, his fifth single and second of the year. The song stands in a gorgeous psychedelia-infused glory as Tom emulates Iggy Pop and DAVID BOWIE AND does it so well. On his new song, Tom calls us to pursue a life of hedonism in what could be both an invitation or a warning.
This duality between pain and pleasure is at the centre of “The Bad Life”, a song that sounds heavily inspired by 70s classic rock. Incredibly dynamic and filled to the brim with interesting twists and turns, “The Bad Life” feels like a singer who knows exactly what he wants his music to sound like. On this new single, Tom recalls all of his best influences and comes up with something truly timeless.

The London-based artist also reunited his backing band The Creatures of Habit for this new single, and they sound even more feral and urgent than before. “The Bad Life” is an “anthemic ode to living high in low places” and showcases Tom Minor at his absolute best; he sounds more confident and at ease than ever before, and it’s a joy to hear it. “The Bad Life” feels like a natural progression from the sound Tom’s had experimented on “Interstellar Standstill“, it’s wonderful to see an artist expanding on and refining his sound this early into his career.
By diving deep into the 70s rock, Tom finds his strength more than ever. He manages to bring forth burning questions about a life worth living, without answering a single one of them and leaving the interpretations for the listener. On “The Bad Life”, all of the options are on the table and it’s completely up to us to figure out if said ‘bad’ life is actually bad at all; or if it is the life that we want to live. I already know what my answer is, do you?
