After an extraordinary run of cover singles that ranged from No Doubt to Mazzy Star, Los Angeles artist Edie Yvonne is back with another heart-pumping original track. The young artist presents us “15 (When I Leave)” AND comes around like a full force of nature swirling around pop-punk-influenced distorted guitars and excellent vocal melodies in a fast-paced new song that is as intricate as it is direct.

Edie Yvonne as singer and songwriter already have an enviable discography under her belt and sounds more and more confident with each new one – a truly impressive feat for an artist that is this young. Edie’s new single comes from a very personal place and takes inspiration from major changes that happened in her private life, such as changing schools and all of the insecurities that come with it. The drama that surrounds a teen girl’s school life is one that can only be felt and understood if you are or have ever been a teenage girl yourself – which is not my case and have never been.

“Edie Yvonne is a 15-year-old indie-pop singer songwriter based in Los Angeles.
She has produced a trilogy of indie dream-teen pop anthems including Girl Code, Queen Bee and Delusion. She is currently working on an album entitled, Girl Code.”

And yet Edie opens up with such candid vulnerability and offers us an honest glimpe of what it actually feels like, and that makes her songs universally relatable to anyone. Angst is angst, after all. And on “15 (When I Leave)” she leans on heavily on said angst, channeling her best 2000s emo and just runs with it faster and further than ever.

This new Paramore-esque production style fits her like a glove and makes a song like this stand out and feel even more special. Edie has never sounded this heavy before, and it suits her oh so beautifully. As she sings flawlessly delivered lines like “I’m leaving, I know it’s not your fault. You never cared at all, at least I tell myself, so it hurts less when I leave” she brings a sense of maturity that is actually heart-breaking.

It’s excellent news that Edie is working on what will become her first full-length, and I can truly say that no other artist has me more anxious for an album than her. The evolution in both songwriting and performance that she has been showing us since day one is admirable, and she keeps proving that she is the real deal. Edie has been labeled as ‘indie pop’s rising star’ for months and even years now, but that doesn’t feel accurate anymore. Her star has already risen, and now is the time to shine brighter and brighter – and that is exactly what she does here.
