Now missing an important piece of herself and looking desperately for her path, the song follows the emotional turmoil as a shadow of a calm and sad presence, the artist looking back to her younger self.
But even though at the time it seems to be the final state, Michelle points out the path to healing through self-acceptance. The young girl grows older and gains more experience, and though the world threw her life upside down, she persevered and kept going.
