Los Angeles-based psychedelic pop duo Plasma Chasms are back once again with yet another song from their upcoming debut album Chrysalis, due to the end of August. “Already Waiting” is the fourth single from them in anticipation for the album, and it shows the band in a completely new direction and light.

On “Already Waiting”, Plasma Chasms transports the listener to a world of psychedelic dreamscapes that feel like a true experience. Their slowest track so far, it is backed by lush synths and shy guitar notes that contribute for the creation of an atmosphere that sounds filled with possibilities and boundless creativity. It’s very interesting how hopeful the production on this track is, given that the lyrics tell us a story of unrequited love and romance.

This somewhat of a contrast between the music and the lyrics make for an incredibly human occurrence. Plasma Chasms has a unique way of writing about universal themes that feels like a nostalgic punch, like something that you’ve known about your whole life and just needed a reminding. “Already Waiting” is one of those tracks, for sure. There is a sweetness to this track that permeates the whole thing from start to finish, from the vocal performances and delivery to the oneiric instrumentations that just feel so different for them in the best possible way.

It’s really nice to see yet another side of Plasma Chasms, dwelling in complex feelings with poise and elegance. The duo keeps on surprising with their inventiveness, and “Already Waiting” comes as definitive proof that they can carry an emo ballad just as well as they do the psychedelic bops. This is a beautiful song, a brand-new side for the band that showcases their versatility and adds another layer of emotion to what will surely be one of the most interesting albums of the year.
