Tillerman is a british project led by brothers Jon and Tom Kulczycki, and they just released a BRAND-NEW single “The Son Must Follow the Moon”. On their new single, the two artists create a lovely indie folk ballad that thrives on religious themes and vivid retellings of biblical stories and imagery that is filled with faith.
Conceptualized from the beginning as a ‘Christian gospel rock song’ by the brothers, the Leeds-based duo relied on a 60s pop rock production that borrows heavily from The Carpenters and Fleetwood Mac. There is a timelessness to the track, that flows seamlessly with upbeat melodies and immaculate backing vocal choirs that set the tone beautifully from start to finish.
“The Son Must Follow the Moon” reveals itself as a powerful hymn that celebrates love and Jesus’s sacrifice in the most honorable way possible. On their new single, Tillerman goes the extra mile and tells us an amalgamation of three different parables with an uplifting chorus centered around Christ’s death and resurrection. Their storytelling is incredibly light and inspirited that it can still appeal to everyone even if they’re not religious; as the band themselves said: “the average listener they wouldn’t necessarily realise [it], but to those who are in the know, they would pick up on the imagery“.
All of this imagery is also present on the gorgeously shot music video for the track, featuring the brothers and their backing band performing the song surrounded by open fields, nature and sunlight. The video matches the song perfectly, as both give off an atmosphere of comfort and hopefulness, of loving and perseverance that just makes you feel good while listening to it. By combining all of these ethereal elements in their songwriting and production, Tillerman came up with a song that encircles so much feeling in the simplest and most candid way – highlighting the best and most important parts of religion and turning it into a masterfully crafted pop song.
