Following a widely successful album earlier the year called Poetry in Exile, London-based singer, songwriter and musician Andy Smythe just keeps on giving. “Tears Can Heal” continues to perfect the folk inlfuences heard on Andy’s previous work, while still finding room to try out new things and keep his music evolving and exciting.

Written by Andy Smythe about the remembrance of an old friend he lost a few years ago, “Tears Can Heal” is an emotional ballad rooted in deep love and sorrow. On his new track Andy crafts, a thoughtful and affectionate piece about memory, reflecting on past feelings and how important they still are. “Tears Can Heal” comes as a triumphant homage to such important people and times in our lives, and it does an impeccable job in capturing both the grief as well as the blessings that were once bestowed even through nostalgia-colored lenses.
Losing a friend can hit you even harder than some family members, and Andy explores those complexities with elegance, admiration and respect creating an atmosphere of acceptance and beauty. ‘Tears can heal the pain, make rainbows in the rain’, he mourns over an exquisitely dramatic production that cascades with shimmery and crystalline sounds circling his voice.

The new single also marks a new style of production for Andy, giving more depth to his britpop sounds and making everything feel richer and more nuanced. Featuring gorgeous strings arranged by Chris Payne, Andy’s personal friend and composer as well, they bring forth a brand new feeling of hopefulness and celebration of all the people you love and surround you, even if some of them aren’t here anymore. It is definitely an intimate moment handled with delicate measures that enhance the track’s production and composition even more.
The loss of his friend, the one who introduced him to artists like The Plastic Ono Band and Van Morrison while helping to shape his own songwriting, is an insurmountable pain and yet Andy chose to share a track like this. Andy exposes himself to such vulnerable feelings and thoughts on this song, it feels like an honor to be invited into this universe. Pain is a universal language, and the only way such a calamitous experience can be healed is by sharing it with those still around you in order to feel cared for and less alone. “Tears Can Heal”, as suggested by its title, is this sharing and healing moment perfectly captured through words and strings.
