The Muster Point Project reveals poignant new single of grief called “Old Black Suit”

On September 17th The Muster Point Project releases their newest single, this time walking the path of somber poignancy. Titled “Old Black Suit”, the song gazes at an old favourite uniform that used to accompany joyful events. Times have changed now as the wearer grows older, and the clothing has now grown a bitter side of it as a funeral suit sending friends on their last journey.

A chilled melody of remembrance grows from the indie rock flavored song speckled with elements of classic rock and folk. While thorough sadness runs as an undercurrent, a more thoughtful and introspective look is given to how that black suit has changed its meaning as well as its looks through time. Life itself also changes from vibrant, new and exciting to lonely and quiet, which is described eloquently in the lyrics, presented by male vocals with a slightly frayed edge.

But while the suit and its wearer grow older and wearier from the departure of friends, growing older is still a new experience. The future feels even more uncertain now than ever, but “Old Black Suit” embraces the fragile life and memories of those, who are no longer around. “Just like life itself, it was not made to last” is a hitting line on the suit and its new mourner job, as it reminds of the uneasy yet very real notion that everything fades in the end.

The Muster Point Project is ran by Kevin Franco, a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, who often invites other musical talents to work together in music. This particular song was inspired by a period in Kevin’s life, when several friends of his passed away just in a few weeks’ time. That compounded grief trickled down into “Old Black Suit” as an acceptance of the inevitable, and a eulogy to the lost friends.
