Inspired by the sound of acts like The Band CAMINO and early Paramore, Nashville-based singer and songwriter Ainsley Costello returns with brand new single “Change Your Mind”. The track comes after Costello’s successful foray into synthpop with “THEREGOESMY!” almost two months AGO AND brings the artist back to her familiar pop-punk influenced sound.
Ainsley’s new single tackles on the themes of establishing boundaries in a relationship, a topic of exteme importance especially for girls young women. Stacking lyrics like “He makes a joke, it doesn’t land – doesn’t mean that you have to laugh“, the artist delivers its powerful message with the precision of a skilled and seasoned songwriter but also the simplicity and sensitivity that comes from being a young woman herself. “I’ve been there before“, she even says on the chorus before concluding with “Nothing is set in stone and you can change your mind“.
“We’re living in a season where women’s basic, fundamental rights have been, and will continue to be highly contested. Women and girls should be able to say no, change their minds, and do whatever they want with their bodies without feeling judged, ashamed, or unsafe”, the artist smartly points out about the track. Its empowering nature, backed by the shimmering pop-rock production and Ainsley’s candid and emotional vocals, makes this an essential song that beautifully raises the right questions and conversations.
“Change Your Mind” is a bold statement coming from an artist who’s been getting better and better with each new release. She’s saying important things and giving voice to so many girls and young women, while still finding space for personal growth and interesting production dynamics. The sounds we hear on this track are an on-point blend of her traditional pop punk roots with gleaming electronic touches and a wall-of-sound approach to the guitar work that should feel out of place on a pop song but really doesn’t.

Co-written with producer Ryan Lau alongside Chloe Duvall and Nathan Dohse, “Change Your Mind” stands as a mark and highlight on Ainsley’s career. The track perfectly captures the insecurities that come from dating and relationships – and gives it a self-empowerment perspective of being able to say “No” at any given time no matter what is happening. It’s a song about self-respect, knowing what your own boundaries are and that it’s okay to set them firmly and explicitly.
The pop rocker has been on a steady rise ever since her first singles, and things aren’t slowing down any time soon. The track is another taste of what is to come from her debut album EXLESS, due out later this year, and shows incredible artistic and personal growth.
“As we are at such a high stakes moment for much more than just women’s basic freedoms, I am all the more certain that this is the song I need to share now”, the singer rightfully states. Ainsley’s journey up to this point has been the most remarkable and unpredictable one, and I cannot wait to hear what comes next as she’s found a way to emphasize her strengths and vision unlike any other track this far.
