For a little while now Clare Easdown has been expanding her atmospheric sound and adding more and more pop influences, proving that she can also create a song with a familiar structure and sounds like no one else. On “Rebel Hearts”, the singer dives deep in a punk rock rebellious attitude of non-conformity of societal expectations. Backed by a DIY punk production that borrows much from the spirit of classic Riot Grrrl movement, her new track shows Clare doing something entirely different and having so much fun with it.
“Rebel Hearts” is centered around pushing boundaries and defying the norms, serving as an anthem of self-discovery and self-empowerment that celebrates diversity. Between chants of “fuck the norm!” and “fuck the system!“, Clare channels her inner Kathleen Hanna and delivers a song that sounds like an adventurous journey towards freedom. Produced and mixed by Clare herself, she takes advantage in creating a song in a completely new genre by embracing its imperfections to make it feel even more real and raw.

This concept is also a big part of the song’s accompanying video, created by the artist herself, featuring her girlfriend skating and having fun. A love song at heart about being your authentic self, there is so much joy in both the track as well as in the video that you can’t help but smile as you watch it.
“I felt filming her skating was a perfect visual to accompany my track “Rebel Hearts” as both our missions are very similar”, Clare says. “We want to create art that is accessible to everyone and help give our audience the feeling and power that they can in fact produce music and hop on a skateboard too!”, the artist perfectly concludes.
Clare’s new track “Rebel Hearts” marks a significant shift from her usual sounds. It is incredibly moving and refreshing to listen to Clare sounding like this, straying away for a little bit from the dark ambiences and mental health struggles usually portrayed on her songs.
Her first experiment in the punk rock genre is defined by a pure and genuine desire to live fearlessly, embracing the missteps and, most importantly, doing it all for your own self no matter what other people may think. It’s about self-expression and chasing the liberating feeling of authenticity and unabashed joy, something she undoubtedly succeeds here.
