Anita Eccleston reveals a hidden world behind chistmas carols on new cover album “Winter Gala”

Holidays are approaching at a speed of a freight train. Anita Eccleston is here to provide a refreshing sound for the festive season – a cover album titled “Winter Gala”. The Vancouver-based artist has deconstructed known and loved Christmas carols, reassembling them into warm, evocative jazzy realms. It’s an invitation into soul-recharging time spent in the cozy space either with your loved ones or on your own, a hot beverage and good speakers nearby.

Arriving as the second full-length from the pen of Anita Eccleston, this Christmas-themed album dissolves traditional carols within itself, creating a whole new world with the melody fragments, now sparkling with horns and subtle hip-hop beats. A jazzy core is surrounded with plentiful hints of lo-fi and ambient, and they broadcast nostalgia, soft emotions, and the time of peace spent connecting with yourself as well as your loved ones.

Those melody fragments have been assembled into 19 songs with the total runtime of roughly 39 minutes. Even though Anita is a vocalist, there are no lyrics or vocals in general – this is a purely instrumental record, where the speechy parts are performed by the trumpet, Anita’s second voice. This has allowed the development of very smooth, atmospheric storylines, submerged in a slightly tangy juice of absolute calmness.

Among the vibrant horns, melancholic synthlines, and chilled hip-hop beats, a different, much more peaceful sort of Christmas finds its place. In addition to the large theme, lots of smaller passages swim by to offer a variety of moods, from the hopeful to the classy tones often found in noir films. Two of the album’s individual songs – Magi, and Jingle have previously been released as singles and soon Shchedryk will join them.

Anita Eccleston hails from Vancouver, where the music producer creates delicately sparkling lo-fi jazz melodies. Prior, she performed often as a vocalist and trumpet player playing for jazz-loving crowds. At one point the creative soul craved a new direction, and Anita found it in producing music. Now, Anita has been releasing self-produced music for the last 2 years, and her love for what she does is crystal clear.
