This Friday, January 3rd, sees the release of Terry Blade’s newest single “Tell ‘Em”, a minimalistic yet passionate song of reminding the truly important. In order to remain safe in the upcoming times, Terry Blade has embedded three messages into his song of hope and perseverance.
First of all, Terry’s emotive vocals speak of the importance of staying strong in the face of adversaries. As the story unrolls, his voice twirls in a passionate dance with guitar melodies played by guitarist Bobby Cole, who composed the music for this single.
Secondly, stay vigilant and watchful, so no-one can harm you behind your back. To drive this message further home, a melancholic and rather sad note is present as a warning of untrustworthy people among us, and the heartless system trying to control us. But when it comes to people in your life that you truly care for and who love you too, Terry Blade encourages to keep them close and make sacrifices for them.
“Tell ‘Em” is a song combined of elements Terry Blade loves a lot. There’s emotional rawness in how the messages is presented, influenced by that of Muddy Waters. The spacious minimalism was inspired by BB King, and that steep sadness in between the lyric lines and music notes was learned from Nina Simone and Odetta.
Terry Blade himself is a Chicago-based singer-songwriter, whose captivating vocal works have brought in recognition and countless awards. More importantly, this artist’s multi-genre works deliver powerful messages and open a window to the world of a black queer musician.
