Moonfactory is an album by Hyde Out, a duo based in London that delivers a panorama of alt-rock and progressive soundscapes with this new release that will be sure to leave any lover of music wanting more. This album showcases thirteen songs that will hook you in and keep you connected with unexpected chord changes from what you usually associate with a typical rock album.
And this is without losing all the charm that comes with the genre we usually enjoy, like rich vocal harmonies, tight percussions, and numerous guitar solos that will keep you replaying songs repeatedly. Apart from the impeccable musicality, this album also boasts lyrics that talk about themes of love, compassion, relationships, and other topics that will have you paying attention to the lyricism and uplifting the already compelling instrumentals that play over it.
The album kicks off with the track “Oblivious” which consists of everything from chord progressions that pull a fast one you by starting in an expected sequence of changes but eventually changing modes to deliver diversity and keep you on the tip of your toes not knowing what will happen next. This is notwithstanding the amazing vocal arrangements and occasional harmonies that will give you a taste of what is there to come. This track shows you a small microcosm of everything else in the album without necessarily giving everything away.

The rest of the album consists of everything from slow-paced tracks like “Only Words” and “Bring On” that give you a well needed from the heavy hitting rock energy that the rest of the album has while also giving more space for Hyde Out to showcase their compositional prowess with arpeggiated chords and synths in the former track and more upbeat and wider soundscape with the latter song, which apart from delivering a gorgeous chorus section also expands upon the expected conventions of this album by including more strings and pianos.
These songs are also in stark contrast with songs like “Firefly” and “Go High” because of the diversity in composition where the former leans heavily into Brit pop with its catchy hooks and instrumentation while the latter in my opinion is the heaviest track on the entire album with some seriously heavy hitting riffs that are complimented by some tight percussions that accentuate the already impressive guitar parts. The rest of the album is just as noteworthy. It deserves multiple streams for each track just for you to appreciate all the nuances of the compositions and how the production elevates it to new heights.
“Moonfactory” by Hyde Out does not stay confined to its expected conventions and dares to experiment and walk the road less traveled with its heavy use of progressive elements and musical choices that make it hard to categorize into the confines of a singular genre. The band offers a fresh new take that will have you putting on loop for the foreseeable future of your listening habits. This album is great and worth your time if you enjoy musicianship and offbeat compositions.
