Following their astonishing new EP Midnight Sketches, German electronic music producer Luke Tangerine teams up once again with Kate Pending for brand new track “Ipanema Rendezvous”. It’s a tropical house song filled with infeccious beats and impeccable world building that instantly transports the listener to a fancy night party in Rio de Janeiro.
“Ipanema Rendezvous” continues Luke’s streak of adding Latin and Brazilian music influences on his particular brand of EDM, resulting in a track that feels like a breath of the salty summery air of Ipanema beach. The eclectic producer was inspired by the elegance of bossa nova, especially timeless composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, creating a richly textured soundscape of both music as well as imagery.
Vocalist Kate Pending does a remarkable job in portraying the emotions of a woman who’s waiting for her date on the beach, only to realise that no one’s coming and it’s all in her head. On his own personal homage to the legendary “The Girl from Ipanema”, Luke’s sounds unfold in a refreshing blend of electronic beats and organic instruments that feel incredibly alive every second of the way. The two musicians craft a very compelling story that reveals itself a thrilling journey through the human psyche as the synths swirl around them in a very innovative and interesting manner.
Kate’s vocals go from hopeful to frustrated as the story unravels and the blunt realization kicks in. It’s a thrilling track that serves as a perfect homage to the Brazilian classic, heavily incorporating those tropical fantasies into his urban sound with the same grace that made Jessie Ware’s That! Feels Good! such an interesting listen. Their new single is an incredibly immersive experience, and they managed to create a track that feels mesmerizing and hypnotizing just as much as it feels real and human.
“Ipanema Rendezvous” is a track that defies conventional structures of both electronic music as well as bossa nova itself, providing a unique perspective from all sides. The duo’s approach is an incredibly creative one, with groovy melodies and a fast-paced yet funky cinematic sound that encircles the listener fully and leaves you wandering around aimlessly once it’s done.
