The Afro Nick’s “Get There Before Noon (LA mix)” inspires us to take the most out of our day

The Afro Nick article cover

The Afro Nick has a message for all of us getting lost in busy life, and it’s a single titled “Get There Before Noon (LA mix)”. Born from a day of feeling rundown and having to do stuff, the song finds strength in being alive and able to do things. So, get there before noon and do what you need to do!

Synth blips and spread-out drums open up an atmosphere inhabited by a heavy mind witnessing the arrival of a new day. The blanket is thrown off and the soreness of last night felt acutely. Still, the morning sun greets with warmth and it’s infecting the single’s mood in a positive key. The lyrics sung by a hoarse voice speak the thoughts of this heavy mind looking through the to-do list and towards the freshly arrived new day.

The subtle realization of the day today being a gift he gets to live is present between the lines, and the weight of the somewhat battered mortal body is now somewhat balanced with the lightness of still existing. Distorted weighty guitar riffs come by to sing their epic hazy lines, joined by dizzy synths. What felt like an impossible task on the to-do list is reduced by weight – “All I have to do is get there before noon”, and the day is started.

Heavy minds chained down by heavy tasks are visualised by the music video. Glimpses of the clock with sped-up ticking shows the relentless passage of time, and the chains cannot be broken unless you think positively about the tasks at hand.

The Afro Nick is a band led by Nick Anastasakis, a Greek musician known for his wild free hair. His spirit is similarly wild and free, staying true to the childhood rebel, and has turned to music, the symbol of uninhibited freedom. For this song, Nick was joined by Greek-based bassist George Athanas and NYC-based synth player and Grammy award winner Leo Gevonese. Nick and Leo often visit each other to work on new music, and for 2025 there’s a small tour planned for The Afro Nick.
