There are a number of philosophical musings that resonate with me and that I personally adopt via our good buds in the Hip-Hop Alternative Punk fusion known as 9 O’Clock Nasty. Or as I like to affectionately refer to them within the walls of my humble abode, “Nine O’ Nasty.”
ORDER “this is CROWLAND” ON BANDCAMP NOW!
One these musings that I recently came across by way of following the band was: “Party, with the people you trust.” And maybe I’m reading too much into it, perhaps because I’m such a big fan of their music (to the point where I even have their tabletop booklet for their album “Culture War” on my living room cofee table) – but I truly think that lyric perfectly encompasses the epitome of the band’s overall sound: headbobbing, beat-laden music, with a twist of snarl and edge.
Partying is indeed, great. However, only as fun as the crowd you choose to surround yourself with. I’m happy to report that the lads from Leicester, UK 9 o’clock Nasty have an epic new album in store for you and I to party to, and it’s out now, entitled “This is Crowland.”
Stream “this is CROWLAND” NOW!

The album will consist of 15 tracks including 3 previously released singles I highly recommend you check out: “Unkle Natur,” “The Wrong Guy,” “Smash, Grab, and Go,” and the album’s title track “Crowland.” I’m very well familiar with these tunes as I have them in regular rotation on my station AMS Radio during the various “Indie Anarchy” and “LT1KF Indie Hour” showtimes, as well as are streaming everywhere on your platform of choice.
The band has described how they feel about this record as an “exceptional album for an exceptional time,” and I couldn’t agree more. I am not alone in feeling some dystopia around the turn of the new year, and I think that music from a band like 9 O’Clock Nasty is a much needed remedy. Or, if nothing else, at the very least an appeasing placebo to get me through the upcoming year.

The band really put their energy into this record and when you listen to it that comes right through, consciously touting “no filler” on it. The 15 tracks that will be released aren’t even the entirety of the thousands of hours of inspiration they’ve poured into it. The “B-Sides” as they describe them were “buried in a landfill just outside of Leicester.” **laughs**
As good as the record is, I hope those B-Sides aren’t archived to never see the light of day. Perhaps when the zombie apocalypse finally happens, they might perhaps unearth then. I, for one, welcome the zombie B-sides.

Indeed my overall emotional reaction when listening to the album is a roller coaster of angst, unease, and … swagger. Swagger? Yeah swagger. Tunes like “The Wrong Guy” and “Hot Disco Shit” (which features the aformentioned “party with the people you trust” mantra) bring the musical ride to a nice old school hip hop vibe.
Some honorable mentions from the upcoming album of songs you (and I until just now) have not heard before are the garage rock laden “Coliseum,” the Alternative, borderline Industrial sounding “Shrinkwrap,” and the dubb’d out “Pusher Needs a Haircut.” Another spoiler I’d put out there too is that the band has a music video in place for every song on the album, and the visual aspect of the album just takes it to another level.
The imagery used adds an element to what feels like an overall concept to the record. Interesting to say the least, featuring a plethora of visual stimuli from slap boxing to evil landscapes to plague doctor masks to Bob Ross. Wow right? I don’t have a pulse on when all of that will be available on their YouTube channel, but it all starts with following this band and keeping an eye out for the new album February 22nd!
