On May 23rd, young singer-songwriter Ava Valianti opened up a closing chapter of her chidhood with the release of her newest single “Distant”. In its airy and flowing atmosphere belonging to a proper summer pop tune, melancholic state of mind sets in as childhood friends no longer remain that huge playful part in her life.
Things change in time, sometimes silently and without any real reason. Ava Valianti experienced that first-hand as she grew older and noticed that the connections once there had ceased to exist. Accompanied by soft guitar strumming, the resulting emotions of seeing integral parts of childhood fade into the past are explored with silent sadness. No-one warned that growing up can come with grief, but there it is.
A new layer of nostalgia starts growing over the memories of sleepovers and visiting friends nearly every day, activities that used to be as usual as eating dinner. A young mind may grow a little older with every passing day, but the questions that arose in her mind back then still remain without answers now. In the end, “Distant” stands as a bittersweet farewell to childhood’s friendships, begrudgingly accepting that sometimes people will just drift apart without any visible reason at all.
Ava Valianti is a rising voice in indie pop at just 15 years old. She’s got a knack for vivid storytelling shown through captivating and poetic lyrics as well as the instrumental backdrop, adding color to the nuances.
