After their debut as a quartet on the lovely “Read My Mind (Vibes Song)“, English indie act Wild Horse is back with “Overthinking”. Their latest single is a FEEL-GOOD track on the highs that come with navigating through a new romance, dealing with feelings of excitement, good anxiety, and hope that come with it. It’s a dynamic song that feels very reminiscent of 2010s indie rock, packed with fulfilling harmonic melodies and an easy atmosphere that allows every single band member to shine.
Written by frontman Jack Baldwin and produced once again by Gary Stevenson, “Overthinking” is a very interesting song as it feels both self-reflective as well as an open conversation regarding the new emotions that are blooming. At this point, Wild Horse can be called masters of the light and breezy, heartfelt and mindful track with gentle production nods to 60s classic rock and an incredibly contemporary mindset.
“Overthinking” fully embraces their exciting power pop tendencies alongside brilliant Britpop inspirations, resulting in a track that feels confident like a victory lap. Their lyricism explores the insecurities and overthinking that come with the early stages of a new relationship, perfectly capturing the constant second-guessing of ‘is this okay, or is it too much too soon?’ while offering optimistic and hopeful conclusions. The indie rock counterpart to Taylor Swift’s “Delicate” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Too Much”, the new song by Wild Horse takes those sentiments and make them center stage, making them feel genuine.

A track that impressively mature in its approach to handling and dealing with personal insecurities through dialogue, “Overthinking” presents a remarkably grown-up perspective on new love. The best way to go about the nuances of it all is exactly by talking about it – even if it’s with yourself. The lyrics ‘I don’t wanna fake it, I just wanna make it smile‘ followed by the self-realisation ‘I’m overthinking it now‘ turn it into the sweetest and light-hearted beginning to something that can be quite wonderful.
It’s those moments of self-reflection that make “Overthinking” such a highlight amongst Wild Horse’s remarkable discography. A track that takes accountability seriously and, in the process, brings forth the vulnerability that comes with liking someone. And the band does it with an upbeat, tightly-knit production that is wholesome and heartwarming.
