Neil C. Young Trio is back with something new and quite different. This time, it’s an instrumental song full of careful softness, titled “AggenAnonAggen”. Inspired by hymns and spiritual music, the new single sets apart as an acoustic little journey coming from a band otherwise known for their lively JAZZ FUSION INSTRUMENTAL music.

Gentle beginning starts off a soft-sounding venture into a place serene and calm, like a clearing in the woods or an early morning away from people. Acoustic guitar melodies build up an atmosphere with no rush, and it’s soon joined by subtle percussion in the background, and calming voice of a woman following the melody played by the guitar. A hint of modern flair is embedded in the jazzy sound, while staying close to the feel of an afternoon in nature, away from electronics and always-on society.
A fuzzy warmth remains prevalent throughout the song, arising from the slight distortion of the guitar plucks and the harmonies arising, between the female voice and melodies from instruments. It’s an introspective song taking place in a calm surrounding, and within it lies a hidden note of nostalgia and self-reflection. From the creation of this beautiful piece of music to playing it live, “AggenAnonAggen” has become a personally significant gem for Neil C. Young. He doesn’t yet know why exactly, but not all great things have clear origins anyway.
The new song will be part of a three-song EP happening in autumn, which will be released on vinyl. The EP features the same song in three different variants, including this single’s acoustic sound, an electric fusion trio that the band often plays live, and the solo guitar, one it was originally born to be.
