Hailing from London, Fiona Amaka has been a consistently creative artist with interesting perspectives both in rock and post-punk as well as acoustic and folk-oriented tracks for a little while now. Her latest offering is the single “No Daylight”, and after the beautiful singles “Justified (Cosmic)” and “Different” that both leaned on her midtempo folkier side, it’s nice to see her coming back to rock with full force.
Written and performed by Fiona Amaka herself alongside producer Gabriel Leni, “No Daylight” shows the artist striking with a gorgeous 80s post-punk production. Borrowing elements from The Cure, Amaka’s powerful vocal delivery sounds even more poignant when fronting crashing guitars and heavy bass lines. It’s a stunning example of how versatile she can be her vocals getting more and more urgent as the song passes with dynamic and cinematic fashion.
