Kat Kikta released her new and quite special song. Named “Was It Almost Love?”, the single dives into the broken palace of love, in which one shattered heart resides. Through intimate imagery, it follows the inhabitant on their search for answers to why it ended that way. The answers don’t reveal themselves quite a willingly, but something much more important eventually does.
For most, finding love is an end game when it comes to personal life. It’s something that’s supposedly completing you and everything will be just perfect from then on. So what is one supposed to do or think, when the other half simply decides to move on and leave you all of a sudden?
“Was It Almost Love?” is a song that tells a story about one person, who has found themselves in that particular situation. Not only is it deeply unsettling, it’s painful, for the person now wonders if there was something wrong with them. As the verses in the beginning are whispered, the blame obviously lands on oneself for failure in something, anything.
Intimate, hurting, and vulnerable, the song navigates the bloodbath to the shattered heart, finding the strength to sing out the sorrows. Left alone with no conclusive answers in sight, grief has settled in, and reality is questioned. At one point, she asks if the love she had was even real. There’s no definite answer for this either, but a realisation grows from ashes: the revelation that your self-worth is most lovingly held by nobody but yourself. There’s no truer love than one that resides in your own heart.
Kat Kikta has also prepared a music video for the single, featuring rustic yet rather warm imagery to the life of an abandoned partner. Though life stood still at first as the heart continued bleeding, a smile soon comes on her face as an invaluable lesson is learnt. You don’t need anyone else to complete your own self-worth. Hold that close to your heart!
