Daph Veil, hailing from Austin, has just revealed a new, moody single to go along with increasingly cold nights and returning darkness. Named “Bloodsucker”, the single explores a similar cold dark presence some of us have or had the unluck of experiencing in their romantic lives. What started out as hot and intense, is now sucking the last of your life force.
The presence is none other than a man or a woman, who you’d fallen in love and moved together with. Even if there were any warning signs before, you ignored it in the bliss of newfound love. But now as you start to feel increasingly anemic, and your heartbeat grows rapid from anxiety rather than excitement, you start to see the fangs in their mouth waiting for your jugular vein.
“Bloodsucker” starts from the reasonably happy days at the beginning of the relationship, where slow drums and echoing vocal melodies caress and enamore. Little whispers fleet by in the background, but the pleasure of having found someone that seems perfect (at the time) allows to remain happy and blissfully unaware.
Melancholic vocals detail the oftentimes indescribably confusing feelings that a love like this can cause. And as the story goes on and few years have passed, the drums pick up the pace. Newfound anxiety is raising its head, but it doesn’t whisper much else than “bloodsucker”. Anxiety’s finger pointing at the partner is invisible, though.
A romance with an energy vampire can and will make you sick both physically and mentally, and Daph Veil describes that destroyed inner self with drums that change in both rhythm and tempo. The calmness is long gone and replaced by whispers as one teeters on the edge of insanity. You’ve fallen in love with a bloodsucker, and life as you know it has transformed into this shadowy realm of unease and self-doubt.
