Sophia Aya, Kat Kikta’s spiritual alias, has just finished her new release “The Sea of Almost”, a 10-minute journey into ethereal space of rejuvenation. In this song, themes of grief and loss shape its sound along with the need to let go to be able to move forward. “The Sea of Almost” is a vulnerable and raw experience of what it’s like to strip oneself free of things that weigh us down, but which have also become so dear and painful to let go of.

“The Sea of Almost” is intended to be a dive into the depths of ourselves to see and feel those unspoken emotions that have taken residency in the shadowy realm. As we’re affected by loss, many things connecting to the lost remain in place, adding weight to the package we carry along. Sophia Aya has written giant sea monsters into the waves of this sea, friendly and docile beings waiting for us to pass by on our journey into the raw emotions buried in the midnight zone.
In weightless, slowly changing sonic atmosphere, Kat’s enchanting voice is layered along with meditative instruments and a deep watery undercurrent. It’s a nocturnal journey chipping away at the unwillingness of being exposed to the unknown and uncomfortable. It’s necessary to be able to face what’s living deep within in order to find a path forward with less weight to carry.

Along with the original, Sophia Aya also has an “Instrumental Resonance” version, which leaves out the vocals and brings forward the darker-sounding undercurrents as if we have already arrived in the twilight zone. There’s also “Vocal Deepener”, a celestial piece driven by vocals and instrumental shimmer.
“Its a composition about loss and a releasing of all that doesn’t serve us in life, wiping the slate clean, picking myself up, pulling myself together and getting ready for a new beginning. But… before we get ready for a new beginning we must be certain to have let go of the past and the things that hold us back. This is always freeing, yet also sad and painful.”

Kat Kikta is working on releasing more music in the coming days, both as the meditative, ever-flowing neoclassical music alias Sophia Aya, and as the vocal-driven rhythmic Kat Kikta. Spiritualism, self-awakening, and introspection dwell as inspiration for both aliases and music stands as a powerful gateway to all things divine. In an increasingly messy world, Kat Kikta offers a way to remain connected to oneself and remember the importance of inner harmony.
