Energy Whores explore how vapid human connections are on the digital plane on new track “Electric Friends”

Brainchild of CLASSICALLY TRAINED pianist Carrie Schoenfeld and guitarist Attilio Valenti, the weird pop duo Energy Whores returns with “Electric Friends”. The New York City-based act continues to explore the artificiality of human connections IN our anxiety-ridden modern world with sharp lyrics and experimental production. “Electric Friend” finds the duo slowing down their avant-garde pop and relishing on trip-hop influences with medidative melodies and intriguing turns.

Their new track is a bleak commentary on how dependent we all are on modern technology, even when it comes to our most genuine connections. “Without electricity, all those curated illusions of online friendship dissolve, leaving us to face what’s real and what isn’t”, Carrie says about the inspirations behind the song. The slow-burning of the production fits the track incredibly well, allowing time and room for the message to sink in – falling somewhere between a critique and a plea.

Energy Whores’ upcoming album, Arsenal of Democracy (coming soon), will further
explore this terrain, delivering socially charged storytelling wrapped in electrifying
rhythms.

Everything that surrounds the way we curate our relationships boils down to the internet, made explicit by its bold music video that portrays the stark contrast of human warmth with the impersonality of the digital world we all grew so accustomed to. “You’d all be dead to me without electricity”, Carrie sings as the wall of synths swirls around and engulf her before she concludes with the direct and simple statement: “Through the wire everyone’s a liar”. The harsh criticism of internet culture is just as valid as it is ironic and uncompromising, highlighting her disdain for the vapidness of the digital landscape while also becoming a victim of it.

“Electric Friends” is a change of pacing for the art-pop act, making use of simmering melodies that really hammer the themes with a subtle but consistent approach. It’s a track that turns our entire worldview into question, not holding anything back, as it lists how absurd and disorienting our interactions with each other really are. There is something very soothing about the atmospheres built by them, almost as if finding a way to feel at peace with the absurdity of it all and transforming the thoughts into a twisted type of comfort since there’s no true escape from it.

Energy Whores continue to challenge everything with striking visuals, rich textures, and in-your-face lyricism. On “Electric Friends”, they hold a mirror to the world at large and make us face things maybe we’d rather not – all while evolving their sound and honing their craftsmanship as one of the most interesting names of NYC’s vivid, and groundbreaking scene.
