After a string of incredible releases that include solo album Pigmented Reality as well as a series of collaborations alongside Luke Tangerine that culminated in Tomorrow’s Dreams of Yesterday, German electronic music powerhouse Kate Pending is back with a brand-new solo EP Two Words. The Berlin-based artist has been consistently establishing herself as a unique voice in the electronic music scene, adding refreshing textures and perspectives to her synth world and sprawling herself across several different styles and influences.

Two Words is a five-track project that follows Kate as she experiments and plays around with atmospheric sounds and colourful melodies, feeling both like a bold step forward as well as a natural continuation of her work. A sonic journey that features many moods, interjections, and creative modulations, Two Words is an EP born out of Kate working with different artists for each track as the result her own personal tradition of inviting friends for a weekend retreat in order to make music together. “What began as a spontaneous experiment has become an annual ritual — a gathering of vocalists, rappers, musicians, and producers, each contributing their sound to a shared creative space”, Kate says.
That spirit of isolation and freedom reveals itself as a key element of Two Words and as the perfect illustration of Kate’s innovative vision: no songs sound the same, yet they share an ambiance of blooming creativity and boundless limits. The project opens with the explosive “Hibiskus”, offering a spoken-word German poem by Michael Huber, performed by Patrizia Carlucci over thumping, layered synths, only to drop into the exquisite trip-hop softness of “Nothing Changes”, which blends the melancholy of chillwave with the urgency of future garage.
