Los Angeles based duo Mike and Mandy are back! They’ve made their name with artistic, skillful remakes of old classics, and this time the duo have gone even further back. “Tonight You Belong To Me”, a 100 years old classic love song from America, is now shimmering in its new stripped-back form where vocals along with sparse yet lush instruments give a perfect dose of sweet romance with a hint of possession behind the words.
February 27th, the single’s release day, was not chosen randomly. In United States this date is celebrated as “National Retro Day”, and the celebration branches well outside US in digital platforms. Mike and Mandy, passionate about breathing new, different life into well-known songs from past times, gladly take part from the day by digging out a much older song, a love song originally written and performed in mournful tone. Over the years the song has gone through various transformations in different keys, tempos and styles, and now it’s time to enjoy a stripped back version of this classic.
Delightfully slow and spacious, the recreation kicks off with dubby slide guitar with a sound that drips like honey.
