On March 15th, Joben Sanchez Productions premiered their newest experimental movie titled “Oy!”. The creator behind this short film, Ben Bostian, got Ellery Twining to write music for the film, and a natural symbiosis of two artists with different mediums, but with similar views took place. The result is a carefully crafted little movie, hypnotic both visually and music-wise.
Peace, the main element explored in this piece, is brought to the viewers through snowy mountain slopes, where fresh powdery snow and cold bright sunshine provides joy to skiers and snowboarders. Moments are experienced in slow motion, attention turned to movement, the shaky unusual viewpoints that fleet past, and the surrounding atmosphere blending with echoing, heavily reverbed guitars.
Intimacy, comfort, and admiration are embedded in every frame of the video and every note of the soundtrack. Slowness is fully intended – the melting blend of melodies forms textures and moods, all while very subtly changing shapes. There’s quiet movement in that place of peace, and the song echoes it. Spacious with plenty of room for exploration, wondering, and endless landscapes.
The musician and a film student Ben Bostian, met more or less by chance, the latter fascinated by music made by Delta of Venus, a band Ellery writes music for. It also turned out that Ellery was in a band with Ben’s cousin, which is when the student first heard of him.
But when Ellery saw the filmmaker’s work, he noticed that his own knack for music that delicately evokes a tangible feeling of space and mood is going to fit perfectly with Ben’s attention for subtle, fleeting detail.
