Hip-hop artist and producer Grim Logick, also founder of Louisiana independent label 3NIGMA BRED MUSIC, returns with new single “The Maelstrom” – a song dedicated to his younger brother. The track arrives just a few months after the album Cipher Chronicles: The Network Archives and finds Grim Logick at his softest and most vulnerable, revealing itself as a confessional and story-driven song.

Produced by Benny Struggle with further contributions from Hollow Logick, “The Maelstrom” follows his avant-garde and unique approach to production and adds elements that come from emo rap and boom bap, brought to life by his sharp delivery and intricate atmosphere. The track is quite cinematic in its construction and emotional core, being unafraid to go places most hip-hop artists don’t dare to, further establishing Grim Logick and his label as pioneers in alternative hip-hop. Driven by original thoughts and ideas, “The Maelstrom” bets on an uncoventional structure and empathy, being inspired by his real life as owner of a small independent label.
The track deals with the mental games and physical stress that comes from running an independent label, and how it affects the relationships around him. “The Maelstrom” concludes with the artist admitting to his younger brother his mistakes and hopes for forgiveness and understanding, and that rawness makes his music feel even more authentic. It’s a song about resilience and finding ways to thrive against all odds, while also honoring the tumultuous path he’s been on and trying to do better.
On his latest single, the artist gets incredibly personal in his lyrics and flow. A track strongly shaped by his experiences and struggles in getting his project up and running, “The Maelstrom” touches on the darker and less glamorous parts of his journey. “It was shaped by a deep-rooted need to speak on behalf of underground artists worldwide who feel permanently shelved by an industry designed to ignore them”, he says.
The song does a remarkable job in keeping things grounded in reality and emotion while also letting his experimental side shine through. The song is a part of Grim Logick’s upcoming TH3 TRIIINITY 3P (Vol. II), a three-volume EP series he’s currently working on and we cannot wait to listen to what he’s got next.
