Michellar’s new EP “Faithful” explores the spiritual, ethereal life-changing experiences

Michelle Bond aka Michellar has just finished working on a larger body of work, an EP with roots deep in personal experiences linked to faith. A faithful person herself, the EP has been aptly named “Faithful” and holds the moments of her life that most people can only be described as transformative. As a skilled songwriter, though, Michellar has lots more to say than just one word.

Stram NOW!

On this little release, 5 songs sit in a row with each depicting a different theme regarding faith and her experiences in different stages of life. From moments of questioning to the powerful awakening that inspired the conception of this EP, deeply personal thoughts are presented in raw, vulnerable form, able to break through shells and connect with others, offering comfort to those in a similar situation.

Recorded in acoustic setting with intimacy in mind, the songs allow space and time for the complex thoughts to unravel. Each song formed in an own way and sometimes unexpectedly fast, and such was the case for the first song on the record, “Deny Me No More”. Born one morning from a melody that came from a dream and with lyrics that poured out in 30 minutes in the evening of the same day, the song features gentle melancholic instrumentation supporting a verbal letter to God.

One of the biggest tearjerkers on the EP stands second in the tracklist, titled “I Haven’t Prayed Since My Mama Left Me Here”. Reaching back to childhood, when she experienced grief and had so many unanswered questions, the soft, slow-paced song stays true to its foundation, the aching soul of a child experiencing a huge loss rocking her world in all ways, in particular spiritual.

“Warrior” is also about grief, but quite a different kind. This solemn song speaks of loneliness and cold world experienced as an entrepreneur working long days in far away from loved people.

The fourth song, “The River” tells the story of that random, unplanned visit to the cathedral to say a prayer, and the resulting experience of awakening has been perfectly captured in the song’s uplifting lyrics. And as a fitting end to the release, “Open My Eyes” holds warmth in its country-inspired sound as the lyrics express gratitude for having once again found strength in faith, and ultimately in herself.

On this album, several wonderful vocalists collaborated with Michellar. Lloyd Miller, Claire Dove, Harrison Black and Helen Walford all brought the lyrics to life with their voices, and producer Tobias Wilson gave finishing touches.

Michellar’s faith in God is stronger than ever, and the artist wishes to share the warmth of faith with all still in the dark looking for meaning.
