Martin Lloyd Howard, a guitarist hailing from England, has released his newest composition “Hidden Andalucia”. Written for classical guitar, the piece combines two distinct fronts into one calm, ethereal atmosphere, the kind that slows down time and allows minute detail to shine at their fullest.
In velvety silence, melodies of acoustic guitar become the foundation of serene imagery. It starts slow-paced and chilled, painting a visual of a very early morning. This, as well as the ending bit of the piece, was influenced by the works of John Dowland, an English Renaissance composer, lutenist, and singer well known for melancholic themes.
Between the crystalline moments of absolute stillness, themes from flamenco bring forth movement with smooth arrays of notes. Still stepping with care like an elegant rarely seen creature in the wild, these refined melodies build wonderful images of life seen through a lens of the observer. Spontaneity combined with planned care surrounds us, if we just listen.

“Hidden Andalucia”, a solo classical guitar piece, was composed on Martin Lloyd Howard’s beloved 50-year-old handmade classical guitar. The classically trained musician is building bridges into a slew of other genres in his solo and ensemble works. While classical guitar is his main instrument, Martin is also fully capable on acoustic, electric, and slide guitars, painstakingly crafting worlds of unforeseen beauty.
