Swiss electronic music group Kadeus have just released their newest offering, a single titled “Dis-moi”. The release marks the beginning of a new direction for the group, as they divert completely FROM ELECTRONICA to explore humanity, deep emotions, and vulnerability. “Dis-Moi” is the first work from the new path and tells a sad story of love persisting beyond death.
The first listen reveals “Dis-moi” as a tender indie pop song with an ethereal foundation and solemn tonality, as well as French lyrics. Its tragic story might be best understood by the speakers of the language, however it is not really needed. Kadeus has, with great success, placed all that heavy longing, grief, and boundless love into every detail of the song. From heavy reverb giving teary, humid gloss to the atmosphere, the quiet humming at the beginning, to the bassline’s presence of nostalgia, the narrative builds around the lyrics sung by voice of utter sadness.
“Dis-moi” is every bit as tragic as it is beautiful. Loss of a child is a topic people, especially parents, never wish to even think about, but Kadeus has turned the heartache and endless void into a song that fully embraces grief and everything that comes with it. The void is now home to cherished memories spent together, memories too painful to look at. Them, the void, and the everlasting love will follow the father till his death.
This single will be part of the band’s upcoming album due this summer. On it, every track tells a story that builds up a bigger emotional storyline. Kadeus, wishing to create something much different as well as emotionally direct, explored storytelling, songwriting, and emotional themes from a new angle. With how delicately and beautifully they handled a theme as devastating as child loss, these artists can and should be very proud of their hard work.
