Australian singer-songwriter ReeToXa has just released his newest song, a breakup-themed “Love Keeps Burning Still”. Written during the height of Covid lockdowns, the song looks back on the marriage that had fallen apart, leaving behind the lingering love that keeps coming by to haunt.
A warm mist of piano melodies introduce an atmosphere in which the remnants of a relationship still stand as a reminder of what was. Infused with heightened emotional emphasis of strings and powered by the force of rock, the single delicately explores that reality, where relationship did not work out, but the love for that special someone still remains. It’s a bittersweet story of bad circumstances and enduring love.
As part of ReeToXa’s new double album “Soliloqui”, the emotional duet offers one of the most vulnerable and emotionally stirring themes on the album. It’s a full-bodied, highly cinematic, and impactful song with lyrics that go into detail about the heartbreak, the persistent love, and the drive to remain on good terms with the then-partner despite the troubles that drove them apart in the first place.
The single is one of the most ambitious works from ReeToXa. In fact its ambitions are unheard of in Australian independent music scene. In addition to musicians, who have worked with big names like Robbie Williams, Jet and Ross Wilson, ReeToXa also brought in the Budapest Strings orchestra. For the duet part of the song, bassist Kit Riley invited his wife, a well-known Australian vocalist Jessica McPherson-Riley, whose voice added perfectly to the pained nostalgic sound.
ReeToXa is the alias of Jason McKee. Powered by endless love for music, the Melbourne-based artist writes deeply personal songs with high attention on cinematic side. During Covid lockdown, McKee saw a perfect opportunity to fully indulge in writing music, and that is exactly what he did. With a light diet of coffee and croissants, the man wrote 10 songs a day, and the intense work schedule did make him pay taxes in his health the end. McKee is from this line of artists, whose ambition and keen attention to detail leave little room for other big things such as relationships, but whose works leave listeners highly pleased and seeking for more.
