England-based singer-songwriter Fiona Amaka returns with a haunting single named “Anyway You Come”. This indie folk song stands as a meeting ground of devastating news of impending loss, and the undying love that would do anything for that dearly loved person.
Built on acoustic foundation, “Anyway you come” tells an intimate yet deeply relatable story of facing a very real fact nobody ever wants to face. Everyone has a limited time on Earth, that is true, but how do you carry on, when someone so fundamental to you suddenly begins to run out of time?
The song, sung from the viewpoint of a child seeing her mother slowly, but certainly succumbing to a terminal illness, explores that sharp dagger of fear in her heart. That deep terror of losing a pillar of her life is deeply embedded in the song’s lyrics, explaining that her love for her mother will not change, no matter what. Even with the loss of independence resulting in needing assistance with many things. Any of that is still so much better than the feared loss.

I recorded Any way you come in London in 2023. My mother had been diagnosed with a terminal illness the previous year. In a very short time, she had gone from being a superwoman type to someone who needed help with things and she talked about feeling like a burden. The song continues that conversation and talks about how, when faced with the prospect of losing a person you can’t imagine life without, you’d support literally any version of that person – as long as they stay alive.

The soul-aching song with simple yet highly effective lyrics has already shown its captivating potential when performed live. The ‘unplugged’ gentle studio recording stays close to the open-hearted, intimate performance and has everything it needs to have to go out and find listeners with aching souls. Though the mind may speak unbeatable facts about the comfort of the ill person, and how death sets them free, the heart will still keep thinking about how to keep the loved person around for longer.

Influences of Americana, folk, and soul are tied together with skilled guitar play and her emotionally stirring vocals, both of which make Fiona magical and highly captivating.
