“Horns” opens up as a deep, brooding song with a strong undercurrent of vengeance. Pulsating sounds, hand drum rhythms and strong bass kicks form a dark, smoky and spellbinding atmosphere and give a central attention to Kat’s voice about to spill the absolute truth.
A relationship is recalled, one with a person that seems to be more into your time than yourself. It’s confusing nature is sorted out through lyrics of biting honesty seeing right through the attention seeking facade, and the song calls that person out as a weak, parasitic entity that never gives, but only takes. And thus, Kat’s voice suddenly goes deep and dangerous, proclaiming “You should wear horns”, adding that they would suit that person better.
Through the deeply energizing soundscapes and beat poetry, Kat Kikta calls upon a vengeful deity to break the chains and bring forth the truth about the relationship. It’s the deity that speaks, when Kat sings lowly with a menacing tone, blowing away the troublemaker like bits of dust.
“Horns” comes along with a music video, which offers a visual representation of what the song is calling on. Clips showing slices of life at the part are weaved together with closeups of the mystical deity and a whole lot of glitching, exploring the effects of pulling oneself out of that rotten relationship-like connection.
Energy vampires come in many forms. While “Horns” points out that title in a romantic relationship, they can also be friends and even members of family. But even though they come in many forms, the solution is still the same – find and accept the truth and purge the parasite.
Kat Kikta’s debut album “Moldavite” is titled after something equally as alien and enthralling as her own music. A long time ago, a meteorite fell into a place currently known as Germany, where it exploded with such high heat that it also created, among other material, green bits of silica glass known as moldavite, thrown all across Germany, Czechia and Austria. There is nothing similar to moldavite, and there’s nothing similar to Kat Kikta.
