English singer, producer and DJ Luke Michael Kane is ready to kickstart a brand-new era of his The New Citizen Kane project with “metalLIC”. Described by the artist himself as his most personal to date, “metalLIC” is a track that softens the disco-ball-house influences heard on albums like Psychedelika Pt. 1 and the remix record LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY and instead offers a dreamy atmosphere of intimacy filled with spacious melodies and indie sensibility.

“The song came from a place of surrender,” Kane says before elaborating on the personal and deep truth that inspired the song. “metalLIC” is about trusting yourself and letting go of expectations placed upon you by other people and just enjoying the moment. “It’s about those moments where instinct wins. The moments where you stop overthinking, stop trying to predict every outcome, and allow yourself to be present,” he comments.
Released during Pride season alongside a vintage-looking video shot around São Paulo, the song expresses what that freedom means to everyone individually. “metalLIC” offers a glimpse into a reality in which all people are free to live and express themselves openly, reclaiming and nourishing the inner strength it takes to stop making yourself small to please someone else. Ultimately, it’s a plea against sacrificing yourself and your identity for the sake of other people’s comfort.
Guided by emotional release and built around catchy beats, “metalLIC” might be the closest Kane has ever gotten to a dream pop song. Its video matches the energy of the track perfectly, showing Kane freely dancing around on parking lots and sunlit streets overlayed with old-school clips that heighten the sense of nostalgia that emanates from the track.
