ReeToXa, Australian rock band hailing from Melbourne, has recently revealed their newest song called “You Deserve Better than Me”. As already hinted by the honesty in its title, the song goes to explore emotions arising from when you meet someone really special, but the time and circumstances simply are not in favor of a relationship with them. It’s a bittersweet and heavy-hearted song about how sometimes the best decision to make is the painful one.
A tender intro of guitar opens up a soft rock atmosphere with smoky, humid feel of sadness and nostalgia. The vocals, also heavy with melancholia, look back to that one evening at a Mexican restaurant. That was a Tinder date and the person turned out to be someone truly special. Introspective lyrics unravel the pain hidden inside that built up as he spent time with the wonderful person, coming to a realization that he’s not able to be a great partner, only a good friend.
The level of self-reflection in this song is pretty inspiring, even if painful, as the person seeing that wonderful date feels inadequate and close to coming off as a jerk. Enveloped in vibrant soft rock melodies, the Mexican restaurant date is turned into a memory, where the only disappointment given to the date was not advancing into a relationship. A million times better than what pain there could’ve been, that is for sure.
This emotionally stirring rock ballad is part of ReeToxA’s newest full-length release “SOLILOQUI”, which features a lot of intensity both sound-wise and lyrically. Some of its songs were created back when ReeToxA’s lead vocalist Jason McKee was only 15, for instance “Bottle” was the 5th song ever McKee wrote. All songs are inspired by life and explore their themes with high level of honesty and vulnerability. Finding happiness in life is often like attempting to find gold in knee-deep dark mud, but ReeToxA shows it’s possible through authentic alt-rock sound of hardships and wins.
