Melbourne-based indie rock act Reetoxa strikes back with “Demand Perfection”, the latest track following the release of singles “Bottle” and “You Deserve Better Than Me“. Fronted by Jason McKee, Reetoxa has been releasing impressive power pop inspired alternative rock with poetic songwriting since last year and the latest song is their sharpest yet.

Taking inspiration from meeting a bodybuilder at a gym, “Demand Perfection” is a song that flows as a critique of ‘perfection culture’. Reetoxa does a great job in portraying society’s obsession with wealth, status and superficiality through the romantic lenses of dating. It’s a fun track that hails with impeccable riffs and strong melodies, making the absolute best use of pop punk dynamics with something very real to say.

foundations, and there was Jason McKee, who had to lay down the world’s best chorus on a shoe
string budget. What happened next was magical.“
“Demand Perfection” is an electric and incredibly thought-provoking piece that makes us question a lot of society’s priorities, armed with earworm melodies and distortion. Jason wonders if there is any validity to such impossible standards, turning the track into a surprisingly introspective and reflexive one. The way he manages to do all of that while still delivering a pretty straight-forward rock song is truly remarkable, making the single of his finest releases yet.
Both Jason and his band admit that this is one of their best works, acknowledging its radio-friendly potential and saying it would be a perfect debut single. Reetoxa is on an unstoppable roll of lately, finding their footing as one of the most intriguing acts from the independent alternative rock scene and, thankfully, they aren’t stopping any time soon.
